Next year’s season of the Shannons Nationals will open with a bang at The Bend Motorsport Park, with Australia's newest circuit to host the inaugural round in April, 2018. Round one of the Shannons Nationals will also mark the first national motor sport event to ever be held at The Bend, which is built to FIA Grade 2 standards. Director of the Shannons Nationals Michael Smith said it would be an exciting start to the season at a world-class venue. “We are very pleased to announce that the opening round of the 2018 Shannons Nationals will be at Australia’s newest motor sport complex, The Bend Motorsport Park,” Smith said. “This is an exciting venture for the Shannons Nationals and we are sure all of the categories and competitors will be thrilled to be racing on one of Australia’s best racing circuits.” A strong line-up of categories have expressed interest for the round at The Bend, which will be headlined by the CAMS Australian Endurance Championship.
Executive Director of The Bend Motorsport Park Dr Sam Shahin welcomed the Shannons Nationals to their complex. “The Bend Motorsport Park is delighted to have the Shannons Nationals launch our 2018 national motor sport calendar, which is set for a big season,” Dr Shahin said. “As well as the Shannons Nationals we will also have the Supercars Championship round in August, which is fantastic for motor sport in South Australia and the Murraylands region.” The opening round of the Shannons Nationals at The Bend will be on 13-15 April.
