On learning about the changes to the Adelaide Motorsport Festival (AMF), The Bend Motorsport Park, has fielded countless enquiries by passionate motorsport fans to support the event.
Managing Director at The Bend Sam Shahin has met with organisers and is determined to see the growth in motorsport in South Australia continue, stating “the AMF has been fantastic for motorsport fans in SA and around the country and it would be a shame to see some of the activities fall away.”
“It’s been humbling to hear encouragement and calls of support from so many people, who have asked how The Bend Motorsport Park can play a role. As a result we are opening Registrations of Interest for drivers and categories who want to participate in The Bend Classic, a sprint event at The Bend.”
The Bend Classic is scheduled for the weekend of 7-8 December 2019 at The Bend, and will provide an eclectic mix of categories for participants to continue to have a speed event for historic and performance oriented vehicles that typically don’t compete on a regular basis.
There is particular interest to keep the spirit of F1 alive with an invitation for historic F1s to still come and roar in South Australia.
By mid-July The Bend will announce further details on event scheduling and categories following registrations of interest.
“There will be thousands of people travelling from interstate and locals enjoying the continuing aspects of the festival like the Shannons Adelaide Rally, and Street Parties. They can come by and stay at the park on their way to Adelaide or come up for the day to spectate or participate in the sprint. We hope the event will be supported and if we can play a role we will relish that opportunity.”
Motorsport fans don’t have to wait until December for track action, amongst other events The Bend will host the Australian Motor Racing Series (21-23 June) and Shannons Nationals (12-14 July) in the lead up to when the Supercars are back in South Australia for the OTR SuperSprint (23-25 August).
