Jam Packed 2021 Spring Motorsport Calendar

Today The Bend Motorsport Park has issued a 2021 Spring Motorsport Calendar with more than a dozen events scheduled.

Headline events include the Adelaide Classic Motoring Festival, the return of the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) and a new GT Festival.

The Adelaide Classic is a week-long celebration of classic and vintage motoring kicking off with the Mallala 60th Anniversary celebrations on the weekend of August 28-29, and bookended with The Bend Classic on September 4-5.

The Mallala 60th Anniversary is inviting anyone and any car or motorcycle that has competed at Mallala Motorsport Park over the past 60 years to participate in spirited track sessions, classic cruises and show n shine displays. Expect to see some significant names and cars, including from when Mallala hosted V8 Supercars in the nineties before moving to the Adelaide 500 in 1999.

With Mallala having been born from an ex RAAF base, and 2021 also being the RAAF centenary, there will be air displays of that era.

The Bend Classic is a supersprint event for historic race cars and motorcycles, including exotic sportscars of past and present, historic sports sedans, and classic Formula 1 cars including a 1998 Benneton raced by Fisichella. The event will feature many off-track entertainment including a classic Auto Salon, a display of historic machines and engines dubbed ‘Magnificent Machines’, a rock n roll revival, and vintage fashions on the field. The Adelaide Classic is set to become Adelaide’s ‘Goodwood Revival’.

The Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) comes to The Bend on September 24-26, with for a test day prior on September 8. The 2021 championship is hotly contested with race machines from Ducati, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW and Kawasaki. Whilst the event was set for the Asian Superbikes to return, the promotors of the Asia Road Racing Championship have just announced the cancellation of both the China and Australian rounds for 2021 given the continued international border restrictions.

New to the ASBK event will be the Superbike Masters with historic race machines and their riders seeking to show the current Superbike riders how it’s done around The Bend’s european style technical circuit. Tickets will go on sales this Friday, July 9.

The GT Festival will be part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships scheduled for October 15-17 featuring a 4 hour endurance round of the Fanatec GT Challenge Australia, and the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia.

Sam Shahin, Managing Director, The Bend Motorsport Park

“The Bend is delighted and very privileged to present a sensational Spring Motorsport Calendar. The calendar has something for everyone, from sportscar exotica and Formula 1 cars, Superbikes, to offroad racing. The Adelaide Classic is sure to become a landmark event in the historic motoring calendar with our unashamed vision to become the equal of the renowned Goodwood Festival and Revival events. We’ve worked hard to pack in a lot of entertainment around the racing so even if you only have a passing interest in motorsport they’ll be fun events for the whole family to get along to.”
