Decade High Numbers as New Era for South Australian Motor Racing Commences

The new era of the South Australian Motor Racing championship is underway with over 230 participants set to compete in circuit racing competition across 2 weekends at The Shell V-Power Motorsport Park and Mallala.

State-level motorsport received an enormous boost in December when The Bend (Also owner and operator of Mallala) partnered with the traditional custodians in the Sporting Car Club of SA to run the South Australian Championship.

This weekend’s event will see 156 competitors competing in what are the largest numbers South Australia has seen at state level since The Bend’s opening year in 2018. Competition will continue on March 8-9 with the traditional twilight fixture under lights at the iconic Mallala Motorsport Park.

The Bend’s Operations lead Adam Brook is excited about the new era of South Australian Circuit Racing ahead of the championship’s first racing laps under the new guise:

“The development of the championship since partnering with the SCCSA has been an enormous undertaking with exceptional collaboration and commitment from the sports governing body Motorsport Australia, The South Australian Motor Racing Officials Association and the local and national competitor base.”

“For The Bend and Mallala to get hands-on and provide a much-needed boost for grassroots racing in South Australia is something we are immensely proud of and we are looking forward to two weekends of top-tier state-level racing to start 2024.”

Motorsport Australia CEO Sunil Vohra echoed Brook’s thoughts as the Governing body continues to elevate its heavy focus on grassroots motorsport:

“Having visited The Bend recently to meet with the team on the development of the new championship, I am incredibly positive about what’s to come for South Australian Circuit Racing in 2024 and beyond.

It’s an incredible platform to deliver value to our license holders and to continue the growth for the next generation of motorsport participants be it media, officials and competitors in the state.”

The categories competing this weekend include Circuit Excel SA, SA Prototypes, MG Racing, SA Aussie Racing Cars, SA Tin Tops and SuperKarts.

With Friday Practice complete, Qualifying/Racing will commence from 9AM this morning at The Bend. Click here to learn more about the Championship.
