Australian Top Fuel Record Broken as Gather Round explodes at The Bend

Sunday, 7th April 2024

Port stars Charlie Dixon and Lachie Jones grudge race at The Bend today has been followed by a new Australian Top Fuel record with a 3.733-second pass at 529KPH.

Dixon and Jones took to the Dragway at The Bend in front of over 10,000 fans on the final day of the Riverbend Nationals in a best-of-3 race format. The two passionate rev heads swapped between a Ford Mustang and Holden Monaro with the Mustang proving the stronger car and resulting in a 1-1 tie heading into the decider. After a traditional game of rock, paper, scissors Dixon had the choice of vehicle and after picking the Mustang prevailed over Jones in the final.

Prior to this the pair witnessed the sensory experience that is Top Fuel for the first time and their reaction video proved unbelievable entertainment (see distributions).

The new track continues to prove itself as one of Australia’s best with Top Doorslammer racer Russell Taylor also going under the national record with a time of 5.591 seconds to the quarter mile.

South Australian and interstate visitors voted with their feet with The Riverbend Nationals recording a 3-day crowd of 27,880. Top Fuel will return for the second annual Spring Nationals on October 18-20, 2024
