Brabham names The Bend as official testing facility

A new livery for the Brabham BT62 has been officially unveiled at the Australian launch of Brabham Automotive, at Electra House in Adelaide.

The stunning Brabham BT62 made its Australian debut last night, shown for the first time in a new white and green racing livery. The new colour scheme accentuates the shape and exquisite detail of the car’s carbon fibre body, which is optimised for aerodynamic performance and blistering on-track performance.

At the launch, Brabham Automotive also announced The Bend Motorsport Park as its official Australian testing facility. Stretching to 7.77km in its maximum configuration, the newly-opened circuit at Tailem Bend, which is close to Brabham Automotive’s Adelaide base, is the second longest permanent circuit in the world.

Fresh from testing the Brabham BT62 at the new circuit, David Brabham, who has led a team of test drivers to assess and validate the car’s performance, said, “The Bend is a world-class circuit and a testament to the passion and hard work of Dr Sam Shahin and his team. The track gives the car and the driver a great work out and we look forward to working with The Bend team as our testing programme continues.”

Speaking at the Electra House launch, owner and Managing Director of The Bend Motorsport Park, Dr Sam Shahin added, “We are proud to partner with Brabham Automotive on its testing programme for the BT62 here in Australia, and to see The Bend become part of the ongoing success of one of motorsport’s most revered and iconic names.”

Production of the AUD$1.8 million Brabham BT62 track-only racer will be limited to just seventy cars being produced in celebration of the seventy years since Sir Jack Brabham launched his racing career.  The cars will be manufactured in Brabham Automotive’s 15,000 sq.m global headquarters and manufacturing facility at Edinburgh Parks in Northern Adelaide.

The company continues the legacy of one of the world’s most iconic motorsport marques which boasts a history of champion racers, engineers and innovators.

Established in 2016, but not breaking cover until February this year, Brabham Automotive, which is part of the Fusion Capital group of companies, has a long-term commercial strategy in place, and is perfectly positioned to make its mark and build for the future.

Commenting on the company’s decision to put down its roots in Adelaide, Director of Fusion Capital and Brabham Automotive’s Commercial Director, Dan Marks said, “South Australia has a rich automotive heritage and Adelaide, in particular, has been, and continues to be, a centre of excellence for engineering capability and capacity.”

“And when you consider Adelaide’s famed motorsport connections, and there is simply no better place for us to be manufacturing high performance cars.,” concluded Marks.

The Brabham BT62 was first unveiled in London earlier this month with a green and gold livery which paid tribute to Jack Brabham’s historic victory at the 1966 French Formula 1 Grand Prix at Reims. This was the year he made history by becoming the first and only driver to win a World Championship in a car of his own construction.

Since the UK launch earlier this month interest has been incredibly high and first deposits have been taken. Build slots are currently being allocated, with first deliveries expected in late 2018.
